5-year old Oakland girl shot by stray bullet

A 5-year old girl was walking with an adult and another child, in Oakland, California, when a man shot at another man.  The bullet missed and hit the girl instead.

The girl is now in stable condition.

Several residents of the area described hearing three shots, and one said the apparent target of the attack ran up 50th Avenue to escape. Although the attack's timing and location - midafternoon, in front of a fire station - were particularly brazen, several residents said gunshots are not uncommon in the neighborhood.
